Did you know that Canada has one of the cleanest electricity-generating systems in the world? Today, 66 percent of Canada’s electricity comes from renewable hydroelectricity, wind and solar. If you include nuclear power, more than 80 percent of Canada’s electricity comes from sources that improve air quality and positively impact the climate.

Canada’s goal is to reduce emissions and achieve net-zero by 2050. And the Canadian government has committed more than $60 billion in financial support to the electricity sector to achieve that goal through emerging technology and other means.

Canada turns to the private sector for solutions

To achieve it’s clean-air goals, the
government of Canada has turned to the private sector—including Soneil Spark—for new solutions. Soneil Spark recently received a $1 million grant from the
Ontario government that will accelerate the development of our Electric
Vehicle Energy Management System (EVEMS) technology aimed at extracting existing, unused power from commercial buildings without expensive building upgrades.

Driving away from coal

Canada enacted clean electricity regulations that provide incentive for new investments in renewable energy and the development of emerging technology such as Spark’s innovative EVEMS technology. Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia are expected to see the biggest reduction of air pollutants as they transition from coal and other power sources to low or non-emitting power generation.

Coal produces approximately 20 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and is a major source of air pollution.
Coal-fired power plants are among the largest sources of air pollution in Canada, and these pollutants have significant environmental impact, including acid rain, smog, environmental and health damage.

Ontario completed its phase out of coal
electricity in 2014, replacing it with cleaner sources of power. But despite
improvements in air quality over the past two decades, the burden of air pollution on the health of Canadians continues to be significant; many Canadians live in communities where outdoor levels of ground-level ozone exceed current air quality standards.

Soneil Spark leads the way to a cleaner future

Canada is investing in cleaner sources of
electricity, and more efficient management of the electricity that currently exists. Soneil Spark’s innovative EVEMS technology is at the forefront of this critical environmental shift to a cleaner, more sustainable future
