Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to charge my vehicle? Charging basics

Charging an EV can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over 12 hours, depending on the vehicle and the type of charger. A typical EV using AC charging (Level 2) takes around 8 hours from empty, or between 40-90 minutes on a DC fast charger (Level 3).

What are the differences between Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 chargers? Charging basics

The main differences are charging speed, power output, and where they are typically used:

  • Level 1: uses a standard 120V household outlet - the slowest rate, adding 5-8 km of range per hour. Ideal for overnight charging with low daily mileage.
  • Level 2 (AC charging): operates on 240V and adds around 25-50 km of range per hour. The most common option for home and public charging.
  • Level 3 (DC fast charging): the fastest option, adding 100-130 km of range in about 20 minutes. Found at commercial stations, highways and charging hubs.
Which EVs are Spark chargers compatible with? Charging basics

Spark AC chargers use the universal North American connector and work with every EV on the road, including Tesla vehicles with an adapter. Our chargers are designed to work with all car models.

How fast will my EV charge at home? Home EV Charging

Spark home chargers deliver up to 80A / 19.2 kW - typically adding 30-70 km of range per hour depending on your vehicle's onboard charger.

Do I need an electrician to install it? Home EV Charging

Hardwired installs should be completed by a licensed electrician - mounting and connecting the charger typically takes an electrician under an hour, and total time depends on your panel and the wiring run. Plug-in models can be mounted and used with a suitable 240V outlet. See our installation guide or contact us to find an installer.

Can I control charging from my phone? Home EV Charging

Yes. The free Spark App lets you schedule off-peak charging, track energy use and control your charger over WiFi.
