EV charger installation in Canada: what affects the cost

Home EV charger installation cost depends on your setup, so there is no single price. The biggest factors are your panel capacity, the distance from the panel to the charger, and whether you plug in or hardwire.

What drives the cost

• Existing 240V outlet. If you already have one where you park, a plug-in charger may need no new wiring.
• Panel capacity. A Level 2 charger needs spare capacity. An older or full panel may need an upgrade.
• Distance and routing. A longer run from the panel to the charger means more cable and labour.
• Hardwired vs plug-in. Hardwired installs need an electrician. Plug-in installs on a suitable outlet often do not.
• Permits. Some areas require a permit or inspection.

How to get a good quote

Take a photo of your panel and parking spot, ask for a written quote from a licensed electrician, and confirm the circuit size matches your charger. Get more than one quote if the job is not simple.
