EV rebates and incentives in Canada: where to check

EV and home charger incentives in Canada come from federal, provincial, utility and sometimes municipal programs. They open, pause and end, so always confirm amounts and eligibility on the official program page before you buy.

Where incentives come from

  • Federal. Programs run through Natural Resources Canada and Transport Canada. Check their sites for what is currently open.
  • Provincial. Many provinces run their own vehicle or charger programs, such as Québec's Roulez vert and CleanBC in British Columbia.
  • Utility. Some utilities offer rebates or special rates for EV owners.
  • Municipal. Some cities offer smaller local incentives.

Rebates vs. cash back from carbon credits

A rebate is usually a one-time payment toward a vehicle or charger. Spark Cashback is different: you earn cash per kWh you charge, from the carbon credits that charging creates. Rules on combining a government rebate with another program vary, so check the terms of each before ordering.

Checklist

  • Is the program open right now?
  • Does it cover home chargers, vehicles, or both?
  • Does it require a specific installer or a pre-approval?
  • Can it be combined with other programs?
